On a previous post, i talked about my new phone. This post is about rooting it. Why root it, how to root it, how to unroot it and how to check if it’s rooted.
What does it mean to “root” your phone? Well, Android is a linux-based operated system. Linux operating systems usually have user accounts created that have special permmisions in order to modify data on the system. The “root” user is the first user in the system, it has, by default, control over everything in the system.
Rooting your Android phone means that you will gain super-user privileges which equals full control over your phone. If you want to know more about this, please check the references.
Before you start you will need:
– the phone – in this case, a Samsung Galaxy Y
– a USB data cable
– a PC
– battery power 60% at least – this is what usually everybody recommends but i don’t really think it’s neccesary
– a backup of the phone – be sure to back up all your stuff in the phone, just in case something goes wrong
– make sure you have USB debugging checked – go to Settings->Application->Development->USB debugging
How to root it
1. Download this and copy it to your SD card
2. Switch phone off and enter recovery mode. To do this press and hold Power button, Volume up Button and Home button. The phone will boot and you will be presented with a weird menu.
3. Select “apply update from sdcard” by scrolling with the volume keys and pressing the home button. Now search the “update-root.zip” file and select it.
4. Select “reboot system now”
How to unroot it
Now search the “update-unroot.zip” file and select it.
4. Select “reboot system now”
How to check if it’s rooted
Just go to Google Store from your phone, search for “root checker” and download the first one which should be this one.
